The best U18 players in the bush competing against their Sydney counterparts in a winner takes all battle. Come and watch these two teams compete for the ‘Michael Brial’ Cup. AND we have organized to have a Shute Shield game (Gordon vs Randwick) as a “curtain raiser”.
There is also more on the line than just the victory on Saturday night – players are competing for places in the NSWJRU teams to play against AAGPS at Boronia Park, Hunters Hill on Thursday 27th June. This is just the first leg in the U18 Club rugby Representative pathway this year.
But as they always say in the TV adverts “but wait there’s more”. Players that manage to make the top NSWJRU I team will automatically become part of the NSW GEN BLUE Academy. This team will go into camp at Waratahs HQ on July 1st alongside the NSW Schools I & II sides and other players identified along the Elite Player pathway.
Then the NSWJRU I team will head over to Perth on July 5th to play the Western Force Academy on July 6th.
Players are then in line to be selected in the final NSW Gen Blue Team that will play against ACT and Qld in September for their chance at selection in the Australian Schools & U18s team.
NSW Juniors have been lucky enough to make these two NSWJRU teams and the tour to Perth fully funded – so no levies to the players. Which is a fantastic effort and we thank our sponsors and benefactors for making this possible.
But that is not all that is at stake – the coaches of both the Sydney and NSW Country U18 teams also have their next gig up for grabs. The winning coaching team will become the NSWJRU I Coaches and the losing coaching team will take on NSWJRU II. So “sheep stations” will be up for grabs. Come down and watch some top class rugby.
